1940 Chevrolet 3000 Stake Body Truck

1940 Chevy Stake Body truck B&W image
This 1940 Chevrolet 3000 stake body truck
began its life destined to be a Fire Engine, but
the company that ordered it did not have the
funds to pay for it ($600 U.S.).  Can you imagine?
My grandfather bought it as a cab and chassis,
red with black fenders and running boards. He then
had a custom stake body made and added
to it.  My Dad added after market turn signals,
clearance lamps, and WestCoast style mirrors
( not shown in this photo) as well as adding
an electric heater from a 1947 Plymouth.
I recall every detail of this truck. If
you want to know more, please e-mail me.
Yes, that's me on the running board.
This truck is the first vehicle I ever drove
(at age 14) on the farm, and later, after I got my driver's
license remained a fascinating thing to drive.
You can get a better idea of the original color
in this picture on the right
taken when the truck was already
about 50 years old.
